Real Central NJ Soccer announced that Ethan Shaw re-signed for the 2022 season, pending league and federation approval. The St. John’s University midfielder is returning to RCNJ after appearing in eight matches for the club during the 2021 season.
“Ethan’s biggest asset is his versatility,” said head coach Brian Woods. “He’ll see minutes in different parts of the field for us this season.”
Shaw is a defensive-minded midfielder that keeps the game simple. He is a sturdy presence in the defensive third of the field and effective in connecting play from defense to offense.
“I'd love to play [holding midfield] at the next level,” said Shaw when asked where he sees himself contributing this season and beyond. “I played some right back in my time, I wouldn't mind playing there. Anywhere the coach wants me on the field.”
Shaw was a part of the 2019 St John’s team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a 12th seed. He logged 22 minutes in the Johnnies’ victory over Syracuse to advance to the round of 16. In 2021 Shaw appeared in 13 matches for the Red Storm.
