Allentown HS midfielder Cade Maglione has signed with Real Central NJ Soccer for the 2022 USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval. Maglione tallied 29 points in his sophomore season for the Redbirds, scoring 12 and dishing out 5 assists. The 2024 graduate has been recognized by NJ.com on multiple occasions, including the CVC watchlist for Player of the Year honors in 2021. He is also the first player to be signed to RCNJ’s recently announced USL Academy side.

“Cade is really excited to represent Real Central as the club’s first USL Academy player,” said Cade’s father, Ryan Maglione. “He wants to make an impact for the club, and not just to be recognized as a youth player.”

Maglione plays for Match Fit Academy and captained the club’s ECNL ‘05 team that captured a NJYS State Cup in 2021. That same year, he was selected by ECNL coaches to the Northeast Conference First Team. Maglione has been selected to multiple Red Bull’s Select Teams and was selected to Surf’s National team during the 2020-21 and 2022 seasons.

“Cade is just a different kind of player at his age,” said head coach Brian Woods. “The things he’s able to do from the midfield, his mentality, his understanding of the game, and his savviness will only help him succeed in League Two. I’m really excited for him to take this next step up.”

Last week, RCNJ and Match Fit Academy announced a partnership to run a boys USL Academy League program starting in 2023. Maglione is the first player signed to the USL Academy squad, but will appear for the club’s USL League Two team this summer. He is not the first Match Fit product to sign with RCNJ in 2022, as returning players Wesley Leggett and Justin Brunow are returning for the second season with the club. Leggett, who led the team in goals last season, and Brunow, 2021’s assist leader, both played for Match Fit Academy during their youth careers.

“Match Fit Academy FC believes true player development should focus on all four pillars of the game, while emphasizing life skills as well,” said Christopher Leheay Executive Director & Boys ECNL Director for Match Fit. “Wesley Leggett and Justin Brunow are two local Mercer county alumni who are role models for our younger players.”

Leahey notes that players who attain the next level are very talented players, but must also be a team player: qualities of leadership, self-sacrifice, discipline, competitive spirit, a resilient mindset, and an understanding of what it means to be part of a collective is what separates Match Fit academy from the rest.

"Cade is an extremely exciting and dynamic player with a phenomenal game IQ,” said Ricky Le, Cade’s coach at Match Fit. “His technical mastery on the ball is evident within the first few seconds of watching him play. Combined with his strength, speed, and quickness, he does things with the ball that other players simply cannot.”

“RCNJ is an amazing opportunity that will allow me to have access to compete among the area’s best collegiate athletes,” said Maglione. “Playing with these guys will give me a taste of the college standard and prepare me to play at the next level.”

Maglione and RCNJ will open the 2022 USL League Two season at Philadelphia Lone Star on May 14th. The men will host the Ocean City Nor’Easters on May 21st for its home opener at Mercer County Community College.
