(Central Jersey) - The Real Central New Jersey (RCNJ) men’s team fought hard in 0-1 loss to Northern Virginia FC (NoVA) in their final home game. Sadly, the game was cut short due to an initial lightning delay which led to the game being called off. The team played well backed by our beloved fans who won “Player of the Match”
“The fans were wonderful all season,” said men’s General Manager Ira Jersey. “Their support of our new club has been awesome and we appreciate their efforts on behalf of the teams. Our goal will be to continue engaging fans in the off-season around other Central New Jersey soccer viewing opportunities.”
Initially, Real Central NJ was strong defensively, containing Northern Virginia to low-quality chances or stymied attacks. When RCNJ won the ball, they were able to move forward with purpose and put pressure on Northern Virginia’s backline - attempting five shots on goal, to NoVA’s four.
The best chances for the home side came late in the first half when Sergio Aguinaga displayed a great bit of skill to beat his defender near the touchline. He then whipped the ball into the back post to Justin Brunow who was able to connect but put the ball just wide of the post. Brunow was able to create a few more chances throughout the remainder of the game, but the ball was never able to find the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Jake Langley performed well earning three saves and half a dozen catches. The best of those saves came in the fifty-first minute when Langley was able to recover off a defensive mistake to make an impressive save from a close-range shot.
