(Central Jersey) - The Real Central NJ Soccer (RCNJ) women kept up their good form and earned another three points at home against Inter AC on Friday, June 4th. The rain yielded before the match and revealed the perfect setting for an evening of soccer. The RCNJ WPSL team played well on both sides of the ball, with a brace for the “Player of the Match,” forward, Tatum Gee.
“I thought that we really stepped it up in the second half, especially because I think there were some first half jitters because we are a fairly new team” said Gee after the match.
“That goal we got scored on, we really responded well to it in the second half. We talked about what we wanted to accomplish in the second half and the girls stuck to it for the entire forty-five minutes” said women’s head coach Brian Thomsen.
Real Central NJ had a strong start with their high press, not allowing Inter AC to comfortably move the ball. This press led to the first goal scored by Gee which was a volley placed beautifully into the top right corner in the eighteenth minute. Gee was able to continue the press in the second half by stealing the ball from the keeper and slotting it into the back of the net in the fifty-sixth minute.
On the defensive side, Real Central NJ was able to shut down numerous attacks from Inter AC, only allowing one goal from a set piece. Goalkeeper Chloe Wieczkowski had an incredible game with multiple impressive saves, the best coming in the thirty-first minute with a kick save to stop a one-on-one opportunity.
After leading 2-1 in the second half, the women continued to press Inter AC and were able to get the final goal in the ninety-first minute. The goal came from a difficult shot by Raenah Campbell that rebounded off the post into the path of Julia Obst who finished off the goal.
Real Central NJ is at home next Sunday, June 13th at 6 pm, when the women face off against NJ/NY Gotham Reserves which will be the club's inaugural 609 night presented by CARSTAR Champion Collision. The men return home Wednesday, June 16th at 7 pm facing Reading United.
